An exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher, private tutor or governess to join the education team of a highly private HNW family based in Shanghai.

The family are seeking someone experienced with children aged 7 and 8, with a strong understanding of their academic, pastoral and developmental needs.

A strong independent prep school background would work particularly well in this role, with the successful candidate bringing experience of planning and delivering engaging learning, supporting individual learning goals and nurturing children’s academic, social and pastoral development. Working as part of a team of four educators, you will support the children’s spoken and written English, grammar and spelling, whilst encouraging confidence, creativity, curiosity and independence. You will also organise activities, promote good manners and etiquette, support the children’s wellbeing and communicate their progress with parents and the wider team. Some flexibility outside the core teaching remit will be required, including occasional family travel.

The family are extremely private, so absolute discretion, confidentiality and professionalism are essential.

Location: Shanghai, with some international travel
Salary: £80,000–£90,000 DOE
Rotation: 2 months on / 1.5 months off
Accommodation: Separate accommodation provided

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate learning
  • Supporting academic, developmental and individual learning goals
  • Developing spoken and written English, grammar and spelling
  • Encouraging confidence, creativity, curiosity and independence
  • Supporting manners, etiquette and pastoral development
  • Organising educational and recreational activities
  • Communicating progress and wellbeing to parents and the wider team
  • Working collaboratively with educators, nannies and household staff
  • Supporting family travel when required
  • Ensuring a smooth handover with other members of the education team
